An Information Developer creates new, and maintains existing documents under the leadership of senior ID staff. The focus of the Information Developer is on developing more in-depth product knowledge, honing the ID soft skills such as project planning and estimating, and learning about information design.
Responsibilities
A person who is successful in this position does the following:
·Revises existing documents and creates new documents using plans created with assistance from senior ID staff
·Researches, writes, indexes, edits, proofreads, and formats documentation within the time frames established by senior ID staff
·Uses functional specifications and other source material, as well as interviews with software developers and other internal sources, to obtain needed information. Works under direction of senior ID staff
·Uses user profiles provided by senior ID staff to apply task analysis techniques to design document content
·Reviews and understands customer use cases for own products
·Tests and solicits inputs to ensure the clarity, completeness, technical accuracy, and quality of the documents produced
·Produces PDFs, help and man pages with no assistance from others
·Proofreads and copy edits documentation from other ID staff
·Uses basic project management practices to manage subprojects to dates set by self, and to manage projects to dates set by senior ID team members and management
·Tests procedural and reference documentation, examples, and online help
·Installs and uses a Platform product with minimal assistance from others
·Contributes to information development processes, procedures, and style guides
·Follows established style guidelines and processes for revising existing documents and submitting documents for review
·Interfaces with multiple developers and their managers on an individual project
·Reviews and understands product strategy for own products
·Has sufficient knowledge to prioritize document development tasks
·Assists senior ID staff with mentoring of Associate Information Developers
·Performs other related duties as required
Requirements
A successful candidate for this position has the following:
·Some knowledge of UNIX and Windows platforms
·Good understanding of software and software development concepts
·Demonstrated ability to manage small projects from planning to delivery with minimal management intervention
·Demonstrated ability to write documentation requiring minimal editing from senior ID staff
·Experience with the core information development toolkit: FrameMaker, WebWorks, Acrobat, and Paint Shop Pro
·Good interpersonal skills
·2-3 years developing technical content or writing experience in a related field
·Post secondary degree or equivalent
